Bourgas celebrates Sauvignon by hosting the Sauvignon Selection by CMB

From April 11 to 13, 2025, the coastal city of Bourgas in Bulgaria will host the Sauvignon Selection by CMB, formerly known as the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon. This internationally renowned event, which brings together the world’s leading wine experts, is the most prestigious competition entirely dedicated to wines made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Over 1,000 samples from 26 countries will be blind tasted by 60 international judges.
A global-scale competition
France, Austria, Italy, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia — the world’s leading Sauvignon-producing nations are all strongly represented in this new edition, which will feature more than 1,000 competing samples from 26 countries. Among the lesser-known Sauvignon-producing countries, Bulgaria (the host country) stands out with a notable increase in entries this year (56), alongside Romania, Mexico, and Portugal.
An influential and international jury
The Sauvignon Selection by CMB remains the largest communication platform dedicated to Sauvignon wines. For three days, 60 international tasters — including wine journalists, oenologists, buyers, and educators from 20 different nationalities — will evaluate the wines blind. Their expertise ensures invaluable recognition and visibility for the winners on the global wine scene.
Bourgas, a terroir and heritage to discover
A dynamic city and the fourth largest metropolis in Bulgaria, Bourgas is a growing wine hub. Over 70% of the region’s vineyards are planted with white grape varieties. In addition to its wine heritage, Bourgas offers an exceptional natural setting with the Black Sea, protected lakes, and the Via Pontica bird migration route — a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers. Sveta Anastasia Island, the Sea Garden, and Bourgas’s iconic pier all add to the city’s cultural and tourist appeal.
The city also boasts a vibrant culinary scene, with fish and seafood playing a central role. For those seeking relaxation, the thermal springs of Bourgas and its famous open-air spa offer a truly unique wellness experience.
An immersive program for the tasters
In addition to the tasting sessions, the Sauvignon Selection by CMB offers jurors an enriching experience that includes vineyard visits, conferences, meetings with local producers, and culinary discoveries.
